ANTI COVIDIOT

Check out some photos from the series and our interview with Le Mindu below.

Why is now a good time to produce art depicting what's going on around us?

We are in an unstable period. These times can also reveal creativity. Art is a way to document and witness the issue and insecurity we feel in different ways.

What has this quarantine looked like for you?

I think the meaning of “introspection” is at the RENDEZVOUS—the only way to not reach insanity is to create social visuals. It's very important to stay mentally healthy and make what brings us joy.

What was the inspiration behind the photo editing of the New York Times

We are lost in way too much information/news hiding truth. It's too hard to step away from pollution and to have your own thoughts. We are flooded in nonsense, but trying to keep it real.

Are you in New York or Paris currently?

I'm based in Brooklyn and the photographer, in Paris. It was important for us to show the situation in metropoles, which were the most touched populations with this pandemic.

You say it is about lovers, though this time is about isolation. Do you find love and lovers are straining or thriving right now?

This wall called COVID-19 made us care a lot more of each other. Escaping, dreaming and social distancing, we want to connect with our lovers and friends with safety.

What does social distancing have to do with this photo series when people are seen kissing?

The fact of not being able to be in a communal space—we are still able to do so digitally. Kissing and hugging loved ones is what we are all waiting for, I believe.

What effect does social distancing have on you as an artist?

Being deprived of human contact and feeling isolated.

Why were these models chosen?

I personally chose those models because we live in a close radius, and this matter is important to them. Also, I chose people that I trust are serious about what’s happening. I started to do self-portraits, but I wanted to show how this was affecting different people and decided to have my boyfriend and my two besties in it. Brooke, Kyle and Dallas are the only people I have seen in a month now.
