Oneohtrix Point Never

office people

What is your ideal office?

I’d want it to look like the crew’s quarters on Deep Space Nine. A lot of speculative furniture, earth tones and every shade of grey possible.

What music did you grow up on?

A lot of Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Who is a visual artist that has inspired you recently?

Dean Cundey.

What is a lyric from Age Of that you are particularly fond of?

Nothing created without the seed

Nothing destroyed without the meat

Do you ever consider the activity or behavior that might suit the songs you write?

Unfortunately I don’t. I’m literally just trying to make music that will give me chicken skin, and hoping it affects other people that way too.

Other than music, what form of art do you enjoy making most at the moment?

I like making collages on my phone.

What is one of your favorite sounds from nature?

You really should check out wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ unexplained_sounds.

Do you see music as inherently political?

Sure, but it rarely comes out sounding great with politics as the starting point.

What venue would you most like to headline, and why?

I don’t have a lot of venue lust. (The Budokan)

What is the oldest piece of music that moves you?

The moaning of some deeply ancestral human that inspired the idea of music itself?

If there such a thing as a “futuristic” sound, how might it be described?

Less discrete layers of sounds. Like liquid sheets of timbre spreading out into bespoke arrangements depending on your mood, I think.

What is the greatest obstacle for you in creating new work?

Tiredness.

Is silence really golden?

It’s even more rare than gold, it’s impossible.
