What is your ideal office?

A boat on calm water.

What is the magic word?

Again.

What is your spirit vegetable?

Seaweed.

Who has been an unexpected source of inspiration for you?

Dr. Jean-Claude Guimberteau. This gentleman made a pivotal video of living tissue being manipulated during surgeries. You can see the connective fibers and the gel-y beads of liquid in between everything. If your house were on fire, what one item would you save? Definitely a giant folder of mail that I’ve saved over the years.

What grosses you out??

Mold, infected sores, ASMR sounds that other people seem to really like.

What technology excites you the most?

New scanning and imaging technologies, like fMRI.

What is the last piece of music that affected you emotionally?

It’s JUST happened to me listening to a song by Trio Da Kali and Kronos Quartet.

Can you describe the last dream you had?

I’ve been on a scooter a lot recently, so it’s not so surprising that it was the direct aftermath of a scooter accident—I was laying on the ground paralyzed trying to figure out how to blink a code to communicate that I didn’t want my body moved by people who were trying to help me.

What is your favorite letter of the alphabet?

Where do I start? I have a few. R, Q, E, B, A are probably the top five. I dislike L, G and D very much. My favorites can all get away with being very expressive and remain recognizable. You can really distort an R or a Q and still have it read as an R or a Q, but if you squish or pull a D it quickly isn’t a D. It is also one of the letters I think always looks ugly in my handwriting...the printing at least. An uppercase cursive D can be nice...

What is the most meaningful item in your wardrobe?

Probably a very faded red jacket I have worn for years that has a few things made by friends pinned to it.

What is your favorite sound generated by the human body?

The noise of a little air bubble being squeezed out from underneath an eyelid.

How might you like to be reincarnated?

Definitely as something that can fly. Probably an insect. I’d have interesting vision, and when you’re that small, you’re very strong in comparison to your own weight and that would be cool. You could jump really far, or possibly walk on water. I think flying around and then landing an a humungous leaf or flower sounds highly pleasurable.
