London-based designer, Maximilian Davis showed his version of the Caribbean during London Fashion Week. In celebration of Black excellence, Davis manifests the Trinidadian Carnival culture with interpretations of it in the clothing he designs. As models walk through the runway, some of the most notable pieces shown the white dress that resembles the waves of the Caribbean sea, the black rubber sea-urchin-like piece, and the textured neon pieces to resemble the nostalgic moments of seeing beautiful creatures in the sea.

Each piece shown is made to serve a specific purpose — to convey the idea that Carnival was once something to not be celebrated, that is until Trinidad and Tobago got their emancipation. Then Carnival became a celebration to have, exploding in color and joy. As Davis dived into the research of his culture the connections made and inspiration revealed are apparent in the best way.
