Queen in the North

How did you get into makeup artistry?

I preferred the more creative subjects at school and I've always enjoyed casual drawing and painting in my spare time, so when I started my Instagram account I think it was inevitable I would get into makeup. I follow mostly artists and creative accounts on Instagram, eventually, it started to rub off on me and I wanted to create art I could be proud to share as well. I bought my first high-end piece of makeup (the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette) and my obsession with makeup started from there!

Who are some of your style icons who you look up to or draw inspiration from?

@stefari on Instagram is one of my OG favs, I love the airiness and flow of her pieces. I also love the bold line work and color palettes from artists like @mais2_art, @dethpsun, and @oliverhibert. I think it's pretty obvious in a lot of my work that I also take inspiration from pop culture, like my favorite music and films.

What's your favorite look you've ever created?

Either the white drippy one or the "Splish Splash" water one, I love how they both flow around the eye.

If you could only use one eyeshadow palette for the rest of your life, which would it be?

Oooh, if I could get away with wearing rainbow makeup to work every day then probably the Coloured Raine Vivid Pigment palette.

Minimalist or over the top?

Definitely over the top. Moooore accessories, & alllll of the colors! I think my style is very kitsch.

Do you usually have a set idea for a look or do you find it as you go?

I work full time during the week so I like to plan stuff in advance to make the best use of my limited free time. Ideas pop into my head all the time—usually when I'm at work or just going to sleep, and I write them all down in the notes on my phone for another time. I'm adaptable though, more often than not, if a look isn't turning out as planned I can change it up and make something work.

What would you like to see more of in the makeup industry?

More support for one another and less drama/negativity. Instead of giving our attention to yet another scandal in the beauty community, we should be focusing our time on better causes, like supporting genuine creatives, hyping up our own talented friends and family, and creating our own art.
