Soji Solarin is Staying Alive –– in CGI

"My question to myself while working on this capsule was, 'Why?' Why is the world set on denying black folks of our struggles and contributions to society; despite fighting twice as hard being the norm for a lot of us?" he told office.

Determined to continue his creative work despite a global lockdown, Berlin-based Solarin collaborated with Zion Koenig on a social-distance-friendly CGI editorial to accompany the release of this capsule, dubbed "Golden Boy."

Taking inspiration from '80s West African interior design, Solarin and Koenig created a digital kickback that (unintentionally) mirrors life in quarantine. The three models are seen chillin' poolside at twilight and hanging out inside the house drinking brown liquor. Relatable. The relaxed atmosphere embodies another important aspect of Solarin's mission as a designer: "To share my experience and research through my work, in hopes that it helps more people see black people as just people going about their day, doing what people do... and not as these malicious beings society constantly tries to make us out to be."
