The cassette covers for these tracks can be found in stacks on the rooms’ dressers and bedside tables, its subjects decked in clothing of the same style. The exhibit’s inclusion of sound serves as a nod to the reciprocal relationship between music and style, while providing the ambiance any hip-hop loving teenage dude would have experienced at the time.


Of course, brands have forever illustrated the relationship between the individuals who wear them and their relationship to culture. Lo-Life began as a movement to challenge white culture’s claim to ownership of brands like Polo, and its influence was so powerful that it maintained its status into the present.
