The Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2025 show, held in Paris, was a powerful blend of sharp tailoring, ethereal fabrics, and folklore. Under the creative direction of Seán McGirr, the collection took inspiration from the banshee—a haunting figure in Irish mythology—and transformed it into a symbol of feminine strength and resilience.

Twisted British suiting formed the backbone of the collection, with wool mohair and gabardine tailored into angular silhouettes. Ethereal silk chiffon and intricate cobweb lace contrasted the sharpness, giving the collection a haunting, ghost-like quality. The color palette was predominantly ivory, grey, and black, with fiery accents of yellow and orange.

The show space, designed by Tom Scutt, echoed the collection’s themes of tension and duality, blending classicism with modernity. Accessories, from sculptural boots to jewelry inspired by the banshee’s lore, reinforced the mythical narrative.

An Evening in the Park with Cynthia Rowley

Cynthia Rowley brought a stunning show to New York Fashion Week, presenting her Ready to Wear Spring 2022 collection upon a whimsical backdrop in New York’s waterfront Wagner Park. The collection drew upon Y2K-inspired styles, employing big bling, butterfly prints, and even some low-rise waistlines. But perhaps the most evident inspiration for the show was pure optimism, as the collection displayed a palette of vibrant colors and free-flowing shapes, and models’ faces beamed with cheerfulness from beginning to end.

Rowley married evening wear, outerwear, swimwear, and accessories in this collection which consisted of quilted jacket and pants sets, neon-toned surf suits, rhinestone-encrusted sheaths, and patterned fun pants. Although the collection is fit for a range of occasions and conditions, one thing that remains true from piece to piece is this: fun and flirty is back in full swing.

"Sexy! Sexy for sure, right? Haven't we been waiting a lot of time to be sexy?” says Rowley. Each look from the Spring 2022 collection radiates confidence and joy that was much sought after, after a year spent lounging in sweats. But this is not all Rowley brought to the table; she also showed that sexy can be sustainable too. Multiple looks utilized recycled materials and Rowley also dished out a new assortment of 3D printed heels, which act as a more mindful solution to producing shoes than traditional methods.

A Love Letter from LRS: SS22

As romance is the principal focal point of the SS22 collection, a few statement pieces stray from neutrality and feature deeper, sensual hues of bright red, emerald, and violet. The words, “Hardcore Lover” plastered upon a white distressed maxi dress further cement the notion that this collection is made to be adored by those who love deeply.

Sandy Liang SS22

Inspired by the youthful, ultra-femme feeling of fashion from the early Aughts, Sandy Liang toyed with the balance between feminine and workwear for her new SS22 collection. Presented outside of Abrons Art Center, Liang set the show's tone using songs from Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette. This soundtrack perfectly captured the essence of the tender, however still sporty and dynamic collection. The majority of the models were outfitted with stick-straight hair and dark smokey eye makeup, another stark contrast against the fun femme energy Liang delivered with this collection.

Liang experimented with more oversized skirts and layered, whimsical frocks, presenting new versions of some of her signature styles. Each look was paired with a pair of Solomon sneakers, further driving forward the idea of the ultra-feminine everyday uniform.

For this SS22 collection, Liang stuck to some of her classic designs while developing and offering a more comprehensive range of silhouettes. Unveiling a new caricature digital print, a small flower adorned with the letters SL, Liang paired body con tops decorated with the pattern under her new oversized full-bodied mini and maxi dresses. Sets were all the rage in this runway show, from a baby pink miniskirt and jacket, navy uniform style skirts with matching pants underneath, cute eyelet bottoms, and matching tops, all the way to a brown leather tank and skirt set. Liang also explored layering with this collection, cutting out pieces from a beautiful lacy, eyelet-covered frock and filling in the gaps with a soft body-hugging mesh. There was something for everyone present in this collection.
