Balenciaga's Bored Room

In “bored”-rooms and behind desks the personas, in suits and separates, find comedic and unexpected ways to pass time in a location where the clock never seems to move. “The characters are surrounded by workday paraphernalia: landline phones, desktop computers, jars of pens, cut glass awards, piles of paper in folders and cardboard boxes–and no other people, leaving them to their own dated devices.”

 

Isabelle reads the numbers on a check over the phone and becomes agitated, then listens to a guided meditation; Han would rather be at the nail salon, as she haphazardly paints and files her nails; Bella loudly sighs while tapping her phone; and depict other behaviors like gossiping, scrolling through selfies and on an extreme, breaking unresponsive equipment in a fit of rage.

As for the collection, suiting, separates, and outerwear are elevated with luxe materials: wool, silk, gabardine, artisanal denim. Without logo branding, bold silhouettes and precise tailoring are manufactured with minimalist construction techniques. 

 

The ready-to-wear collection will launch in stores and on Balenciaga.com in December 2022.
