The Biologique of Fashion

Finding connections to nature in the material world comes naturally to Jill, as she muses that from a young age science was her first love. “I did take a lot of science in high school and college — especially related to biology and the environment — and I’ve been able to pull from a treasure trove of information stored in my brain,” Jill stated, “Fun fact: My father threw our television in the trash when I was 10 years old because he wanted us kids to spend more time outside. So I read a lot from the encyclopedia Britannica collection we had sitting on the bookshelf when I was younger.”

As far as the objective behind bringing comparisons of fashion and the environment to the public’s attention, Jill simply just wants others to marvel in the beauty and intricacy of the outdoors as much as she does. Further, she feels it is a useful lens through which to employ people to appreciate nature and treat our world with more compassion. “The fashion industry takes so much from nature but doesn’t give back or protect it. Every creature in my feed is threatened by unsustainable business practices. So if people can learn to love and appreciate nature in this unconventional way, they might feel more connected to it and be more likely to protect it,” says Jill.
