Boiler Room Fest NYC - office gets Hot and Heavy

The festival was kicked off with two rappers Dizzy Fae, delivering an energized performance, and Mick Jenkins, setting the bar high for following artists. Half Moon, a New York radio station, curated succeeding sets marking a powerful lineup. The motion of the sun spoke to the progression of the festival, informing the crowd and providing a transcendent atmosphere. Sets by Yung Neil, Connie Diiamond, Yazime, and SprtyK illuminated the crowd fusing Hip-Hop and club sounds. Following these performances stood Polo Perks, a fellow member of Surf Gang and alternative rapper who delivered a dynamic performance. Hu dat continued the momentum with an immersive set fusing genres, including artists such as Tierra Whack. Like That Records brought an added edge with Latin beats and electronic rhythms feeding into the diverse festival. The day concluded with Bizzy Banks transitioning the crowd with vibrant mixes and a live performance.

As dusk descended the crowd moved inside for DJ sets. At the ABSOLUT stage, Ash Lauryn Curates presented Underground & Black, showcasing new sounds and talents from Brooklyn, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, and more. Opening a portal into the future of the underground sound, sister-duo Analog Soul set the tone with a deep house set. Ash Lauryn herself delivered a dance-worthy discography drawing on funk, disco, and more, giving new life to underground genres, while paying homage to the Black roots of dance music, while Kai Alcé opened the floor, fusing Afrobeats, Soca, and Jazz in his trademark Detroit to Atlanta sound. Kyle Hall created complex soundscapes lulling the crowd with an interlude of dance-able trance, and Chicago powerhouse, Ron Trent closed the ABSOLUT stage by bringing back the boogie with funk-heavy grooves.

In the Red Room, the boiling pot was hotter than ever as DJs and attendees got in a silly goofy mood. From Patia’s Fantasy World, Marceline Steel opened her set with the “He’s Escaping, the Killer is Escaping” Tik Tok sound. While Papi Juice’s Oscar Nn promised to fulfill our every desire with Joseline Hernandez’s infamous “Live Your Life (Do it Like its Yo Bday),” which he absolutely delivered on by somehow managing to fuse “Way 2 Sexy” and “Mr. Brightside” into the same set. Another standout of the night was the effervescent bundle of bops, Kaili, bridging new “it” girls like TiaCorinne with thee “it” girl Aaliyah for a set as hot as Kaili’s bright red pixie-cut.

Though we wished the night could last forever, all good things must come to an end, but to take the Boiler Room experience out of the boiler room and into your closet, check out their AW21 line here.
