Burberry opens up with Animal Extinct

"I wanted to move through a series of immersive spaces, each of them unique and unexpected in their sound, texture, and experience. It’s that idea of flicking between the endless realities and fantasies we have at our fingertips each day." is what Chief creative officer, Riccardo Tisci said about Burberry's newest SS22 presentation.

The collection 'ANIMAL INSTINCT' isn't what you'd suspect. Despite the line's name, you'd assume blatant shoddy cheetah prints was thrushed onto a tight mini dress, but the contrary was relayed. The collection plays upon the innate and natural gravitation humans have to exploration and curiosity. This is why this season, you see Ricardo play with textures and juxtapose them with colors and silhouettes - leading exploration to take him to an abstract atmosphere.

The iconic Burberry trench coat is deconstructed and built back up and operates with new experimental styles and silhouettes like never seen before. For this collection, Burberry mixes their uniformed looks like structures blazers and glossy trench coats with gabardine and textural linen-cotton to showcase abstract prints.

A mix of geometric and experimental conceptual prints evoke flowing forms of camouflage, and dressed and shirts are donned in the ‘Universal Passport’ graphic layered under printed mesh tops to generate distinct consistencies in pattern.

Total Recall

Born in the Moroccan town of Tétouan and educated in Paris, Khattabi’s upbringing required him to make sense of how the different influences surrounding him could align. In turn, his designs explore the embedded codes and history of his bicultural background. Total Recall addresses this phenomon by including garments meant to reflect adaptation and transformation. Skirts made of tire covers and motorcyle tarpaulins refashioned into dresses are scattered across the collection, conveying notions of displacement. Blending these elements adds an industrial touch to the pieces while still keeping a sense of movement.

From sweatpants infused with polka dots to nostaglic slogans and banner display, the ensembles symbolize hidden identities and memories. Giving us a glimpse into his own memories, Khattabi's work evokes affection for the past. It's a nod to the interconnectedness of culture and how we interact with its complexitites creatively.
