When news broke that a handful of U.S. senators had been, with one hand, assuring the American people that all was going to be okay, and with the other hand, liquidating their investment portfolios before the stock market crashed, seemingly leveraging inside information on COVID-19 for profit, I yelled, "FUCK THESE PEOPLE," into the semi-reflective screen of my iPhone.

Then I started writing erotic poetry about Trump's cabinet members. I thought it might be a good exercise, therapeutic even, to attempt to humanize politicians I have trouble relating to. The idea isn't to minimize or trivialize the relentlessly inhumane agenda of the Trump administration, but to use sex as a common ground force—even Steve Mnuchin fucks—that might remind me that these people, although everything-that's-wrong-with-American incarnate, are people. Also worth noting, I am, like many, extremely bored.

Roger (the Gig Slut) Mairlot's Still Going

When was the last time you had your face painted? Maybe it was at a childhood birthday party or a local fair, where your chosen mask sparked a day of pretend play. Revisiting this childhood ritual, artists Angel Velluto and Janina Zais took us across London to meet eight seniors whose stories revealed resilience and strength. Each participant was asked to fill out a Proustian-inspired questionnaire, and their responses were discussed with the team before being translated into unique masks by Zais. During the process, we had the chance to chat with each person to learn more about why the face paint they chose felt like a fitting tribute to their lives.

Meet Roger Mairlot, better known as 'The Gig Slut'. Though he's always felt at home in both iconic and underground venues, since retiring in 2008, Roger has fully immersed himself in London’s live music scene. Roger's passion has evolved into a full-blown obsession in recent years. Aiming to attend a gig every night — at the very least — he admits that in the past year, he hasn’t attended as many as he would have liked. Still, he continues to handwrite his schedule each week, pursuing his passion with military precision and tenacity.
