Give Ai Weiwei Access
Good Fences Make Good Neighbors is a curated and creatively conceived embodiment of how we can see and reinterpret "security" and the physical and societal barriers we have built surrounding separation and division at all levels of location. Despite denial as a seemingly simpler reaction to our cultural climate, the inevitable issues of rejecting our uncomfortable realities and avoiding action can be easily solved with the art of Ai Weiwei.
Presented by the Public Art Fund, Ai Weiwei will take his anti-segregation statement and spread it throughout New York, through site-specific sculptural "digital spaces" and "interventions" that span a plethora of places from many major parks such as Central Park, Meadows Corona Park, Washington Sq. Park, all the way to scattering smaller stops on lamppost pop-ups. It is both a love letter and a plea, to our people and our place— an attempt at blurring borders and highlighting hope for bringing back unity. And with our help this can be a reality.
Yesterday, P.A.F. launched a Kickstarter campaign to grant public access to this project, asking for as little as $5 and as high as $10,000 in the spirit of inclusivity.
