What is your ideal office?
One that travels with me wherever I go. And one that is just
as easily left behind.
Is New York your city?
I reconsider that notion once a year during the dregs of
winter, but yes I’d say so.
What idea has made a remarkable impression on
you?
That one can choose to change the course of their life at any
point. It’s never fixed—reinvention is always an option.
What is your most treasured belonging?
One quarter of a jade bangle my mother wore every day until
her death.
What is a career highlight that sticks out to you?
Making the decision to design for my own brand.
If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?
I tried so many different things before arriving at where I
am now. And while I’m still open to the possibility that I
might find work in a sector other than design, I love what I
do and honestly can’t imagine doing anything that strays too
far from that.
What grosses you out?
There’s not much that makes me feel uneasy, but watching
anything surgical, real or simulated, will usually make me
look away.
Who would you come back as in your next life?
I’d be far more interested in choosing when I would come
back for this next life.
What has inspired you lately?
MIT Media Labs.
What do you look for when scouting new designers?
Innate talent and a lack of intent.
How would you like to be remembered?
As a good father.
