From Catwalk to Print: Louis Vuitton Menswear

Founded by French craftsman and entrepreneur Louis Vuitton in 1854, the house quickly evolved from a maker of innovative steamer trunks into one of the world’s most influential and valuable fashion brands. During his tenure as creative director from 1997 to 2013, Marc Jacobs introduced the house’s first ready-to-wear collections, including menswear.

The twelfth installment in Yale University Press’s acclaimed Catwalk series, LOUIS VUITTON MENSWEAR offers an illustrated history of the house and the evolution of its menswear, with contributions from fashion critic Anders Christian Madsen.

A succession of creative directors, including Paul Helbers, Kim Jones, Virgil Abloh, and Pharrell Williams, have each helped shape the house’s menswear identity. The book traces the department’s history through profiles of its creative directors, followed by each menswear collection, accompanied by short essays exploring its influences and defining moments.

Filled with hundreds of runway images, the volume captures the clothes, shoes, accessories, and the models and celebrities who brought each collection to life. Finished with the cloth binding and ribbon details synonymous with the Catwalk series, it offers a comprehensive look at the evolution of Louis Vuitton menswear.
