I met Anton Marchand at the Conrad McRae boys’ high school summer basketball tournament in Brooklyn. I had been taking photos there for a few summers when Anton first invited me to come to a different tourna- ment he started with his partner Cleon “Silk” Hyde. He said “ You gotta see the girls play. Come to the Rose Classic” So I did, I started coming and shooting photos, and since then I’ve seen some of the most exciting basket- ball games of my life there, NBA included.

When Jeremy Lin joined the Knicks in the 2011-12 season, steering the team to an improbable winning run and becoming a one-man worldwide phenomenon in the process, New York artist Andrew Kuo began a series of portraits of the point guard, one of the only Asian Americans to ever play in the NBA. The paintings, which play with themes of art and race, are displayed here with two additional pieces painted exclusively for Office Sport.
