Postcard Boy: Searching for Peace

Hey Postcard Boy, how are you?

Doing solid. Super stoked that EP is out.

What’s on your mind these days?

My head’s kind of everywhere trying to keep up with the condition of the world while maintaining some sanity.

What have you been up to?

I’ve just been trying to skate more and surf since I’m home in San Diego. Also super convenient that both of those are able to be done socially distant and all. Working on music here and there, but having a lack of inspiration right now.

Congrats on the new EP, I’m a big fan, how’s the reception been?

Thank you, it’s been good so far. It feels nice just to have it out regardless, this was the longest I’d ever sat on music before releasing it. I still have a couple of music videos I’m gonna roll out over the next month, but once those are out I’ll feel final closure on the project.

How are you feeling about it compared to your older work?

I think it’s the best thing I’ve put out so far. Completing all six music videos was a real test for me and took so much persistence and planning. Sonically, the production and the songwriting is better as well. This is undoubtedly the most complete and cohesive project I’ve shared yet.

I wanted to know who your biggest influences are—I’m hearing a lot of BROCKHAMPTON in the production and vocals.

Yeah, BROCKHAMPTON and Kevin Abstract are definitely inspirations to a certain extent sonically, but also the way they’ve built their visual style and their world as a whole. I can’t remember exactly because I finished writing the project last October, but I think some of the bigger artists I was listening to at the time were James Blake, Bon Iver, Toro y Moi, Blood Orange, Choker, and a bunch of others.

What do you want people to feel most when they listen to your music?

I hope people feel some sort of comfort in my music, especially Limbo. I wrote it for myself to have some solace in a time of uncertainty, so I hope that sort of energy in the songwriting comes across. The space my music sits in currently I don’t think is the headbanging type, I’m not discouraging anyone from doing so though. I only say “currently” because I know my style will vary in the future.

How do you feel about your music?

I feel like my sound is constantly evolving and I’m still learning to have confidence in what I’m doing. I said this in the past when getting asked about what my creative vision is and it still encapsulates where I’m at right now. I’m doing my best to figure out the world and who I am, and I’m leaving pieces behind for you to follow.

Where are you going next?

I want to keep trying out new things for music videos and push the limits for myself and what I can do to be more than just some pretty pictures. I’ve got some short films and larger visual ideas already developed, so getting around to those once I can later this year I’m excited for. Musically, I want to have fun making whatever I do next.
