She has over a million monthly listeners, and it’s no question why. She is fresh and holds the same tinge that makes all the music coming out of the Atlanta scene unique yet traceable to the culture dominating the music world right now. Her range is one of the most impressive parts of her music. On her biggest song, “LEFT-RIGHT,” she embodies the eerie, dark essence of an Atlanta rap star over nasty trap beats. Yet, on songs like “Tweakin’ Together,” “okok/depressing,” and “IDK WHAT TO TELL YOU,” produced by BK and Mac Demarco and features a sample from his record, “On the Level,” she brings artists like 070 Shake to mind with her ethereal, spacey, psychedelic singing style. It’s in these songs that I understand the appeal she has among young listeners.
She proves her Atlanta roots in her trap bars but taps into a more youthful, fresher style of psychedelic rap that hits so smoothly and understandably by such a young, energetic artist like BK. After her set, after jumping on top of her team and feeling an unimaginable sense of joy and appreciation for her audience, I met BK, a smiley, happy, and kind person who was more than ready to set down with me and answer some questions.
I just saw your show and it was fucking crazy, the crowd went crazy for you. How did it feel for you?
It felt like I left my body and came back.
And where did you go?
To level six.
What level were you at before?
Five.
What level do you want to get to next?
As many as I can.
This is your second music festival? How did this one feel compared to the first one?
Yes, my first one was Lyrical Lemonade. It’s a different experience but both of them were fun as fuck. It’s crazy to see the dynamics of how different festivals are but this one was very fun.
And when did you start performing?
I started to perform at fifteen.
And you’re nineteen now.
Yes.
And you’re at Rolling Loud. How does that feel?
Yes. I feel like I am the baby of Rolling Loud.
What does it mean to be the baby?
The coolest.
What else do you want from the rest of your festival performances?
To meet more people and to have fun.
