You’re calling this genre of music “Boogie Sleaze.” What’s the first rule of boogie sleaze?
A groovy, driving bassline. If the bass isn’t making you move, it’s not boogie sleaze.
The music video for “Feel Good” was shot entirely on a moving plane. What went on up there?
I did a DJ set and played bass on a vintage DC-6 plane while we were actually flying. So basically we danced, jumped around, drank Red Bull, and looked out the window at the gorgeous view of New York City.
How did you cherry-pick who would be in the music video?
It was very spontaneous. The day before, I literally texted a bunch of my friends like, “Hey, I’m DJing on this vintage plane tomorrow, do you wanna come?” Luckily, they didn’t ask too many questions.
You grew up between New York and Ibiza. How does that influence you sonically?
New York will always be in my music. The grit, the attitude, the energy, the feeling that something is always happening. Ibiza is where I got the dance-music bug. I want my songs to work wherever people are moving, whether that’s a nightclub at 2 a.m.or a sunset beach set.
What’s making you feel good lately?
New York, always. Preparing for my next live shows, being home, being around my friends and family, making music, playing ping-pong, walking around the city while listening to music.
Bringing your signature blue Fender to an air show is pretty sick. What are some other unexpected places your bass has traveled?
I took it on a hike in Hope, Alaska a few summers ago. It was magical. At this point, that bass has been on planes, boats, trains, Citi Bikes, farms, and beaches. Pretty much everywhere I go, it goes. I DJ'd and played bass in the back of a moving convertible recently.
Tell us something about this new era that we won’t understand until later.
“All is good, I make music.” That’ll make more sense later.

What is your ideal office?
A recording studio with a room specifically for dancing connected to it, almost like where a live recording room would normally be. So I could feel out the movement of the music I’m making completely and unrestricted, blasting on the speakers.
When was the last time someone put a love spell on you?
I went to Austin this weekend for Ian’s (Kevin Abstract’s) joint Q&A and showing of the movie Our Hero, Balthazar. It was so good. At the after-party, this lady came up to me and pulled a burger out of her purse.
What spell do you wish you could cast?
I don’t think I could cast any better spell than writing a song.
What’s the kookiest thing you’ve seen in Los Angeles?
People paying $100 to get into a club.
What song isn’t a love song but should be?
“Early Blue” by F.J. McMahon. It’s about not wanting to face the world but you should anyway. But in my head, this early blue he speaks of appears as a person he’s running from.
What do people misunderstand about you?
People misunderstand how deeply I feel things. I’m only just a little bit crazy.
Do you believe in platonic soulmates?
Yeah, I think some people are sent to hold your heart, not your hand.
What magical creature would you be?
Probably whatever Gollum from Lord of the Rings is because I just would love to be a weird little thing.
Do you have a favorite TV show theme song?
I love listening to the Twin Peaks theme song. There’s this lady, Julee Cruise, whose song contributed to the instrumentals of this theme song, and I turn that album on almost every late-night drive that takes me more than an hour.
What’s the most Texan thing about you?
I like things loud, honest, and a little excessive. That’s Texas enough for me.
What is the doll version of you wearing?
Tiny black sunglasses at night, a shirt half unbuttoned, leather boots, tangled hair, and a leather jacket that smells like perfume.
Daytime or nighttime— when are you most alive?
Nighttime for sure. I’ve always loved doing everything when it’s dark outside; it feels warmer.
Who was your very first crush?
Definitely my first girlfriend from kindergarten. I still remember her very well. Her name was Viviana. I often wonder how she’s doing.
What three laws would you make in “Love Spells Land”?
1. You have to say what you feel.
2. Dancing is mandatory after midnight.
3. Love is the law and fear is the prison.
What’s your most useless talent?
Remembering people I’ll never meet again.
Do you know your MBTI personality?
Campaigner; ENFP-A.

What inspired you to create occulto 002?
occulto 002 is about purging a lot of my expression that has been pent-up in the previous seasons of my life. Whether that be anger, terror, ecstasy, sex.. things I was too afraid to own until now. Some of these songs at over 3 years in the making.
Which song off the EP impacted you the most during the creation process? How did it impact you?
"Born Again" or "a plague, a pestilence". They are sister tracks in a way, one being the light and the other my darkness. They capture the extremes of my psyche and it’s been very illuminating to bring these subconscious aspects to a more complete awareness.

Which one of your songs describes NYC's energy?
Cutting Edge from my OwO - EP.
What's your favorite project you've done? Probably one of my earlier music videos that turned into a really extensive passion project. It’s called Dopamine Dream. It’s really amateurish and scrappy, but I grew a lot as a director in the creation of that video.
What's an upcoming project you're working on?
My debut album! CULTO… it will be out in the fall.
