The series produces an eerie prediction for what's to come. "A day in summer 2020. Social isolation has become normal. The new disease is called hypochondria," says Roché.
The collaboration brings Sherald’s exploration of American identity and experience into conversation with Fear of God’s own approach to American luxury and storytelling. Kingdom is translated onto a heavyweight hoodie and T-shirt, both designed in California and made in America.
“This collaboration is an extension of my work. It’s more than artwork placed on clothing. Jerry and I share a visual language rooted in restraint, beauty, and intention. I sometimes describe my practice as minimalist figuration. Clothing becomes another kind of canvas, something people can inhabit rather than observe,” says Sherald.
