Sunnei Surfs the Crowd

Once again, and unsurprisingly, SUNNEI took us beyond the concept of "runway" with a show that was more an act than anything else. The Milan-based brand, creatively helmed by Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, has become synonymous with outlandish runway concepts that are immersive, sensorial, and ingeniously unexpected.

For their Fall/Winter 2023 collection, Loris and Simone sought to no longer scratch the surface of fashion presentations with a fabricated narrative but to reveal the core essence of what makes such an extraordinary experience possible. So instead of the typical cast of models, SUNNEI's team of assistants, designers, and managers strutted down the runway to the tune of banging rock 'n roll melodies and, in nostalgic rockstar fashion, lept off-stage, straight into the arms of the guests below to crowd surf over those on foot.

The act was fun and exhilarating, and accompanied by an explosion of colors, textures, prints, and materials. The crochet fur on ready-to-wear and headpieces are most likely to be remembered, together with the comeback of the brand's signature 1000chiodi shoes, the spherical jewels filled with unidentified liquids, and the sense of having taken part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience even if only viewing it afterward on a screen.
