Hedi at the Wiltern

As for the fashion show, to keep it simple, Hedi gave us Hedi. Though Spring '22's wide leg jeans may have had a captive courture audience waiting for more experimentation from the photographer and creative director, this season Slimane has made it very clear that he's back in home court — with added glitz and a luxurious live soundtrack from Millenial rock's biggest faces. Last night, while models in sequins, wide-brim hats and skinny jeans walked the runway, with "Hello, Operator" on a loop in our ears, we were catapulted into a heavily nostalgic world, wistful for Slimane's own past as much as our own, regressing into the early 2000's — Hedi's early years as a rising star in high fashion.

While we may not have seen Slimane go outside of the lines, there's a lot to be said for a designer and creative in our fast-paced, trend-thirsty industry who has a signature style and a recognizable personality — which gets produced time and again, both beautifully and to our applause. This ever-chic, classic Celine he has shaped and re-inforced is one of fashion's most prominent players for a reason. It's not all so different than us holding the music of that era close, feeling our emotions when we watched the recently released film version of Meet Me In The Bathroom. Listening to The Strokes' "Someday" on my daily playlist makes me feel excited, youthful, shiny. To hear them at the Celine show took it all to new heights, and helped me better understand the Hedi I've always thought I knew.
