New York Aficionados

New York creatives have been reigning and finessing the creative world long before social media was created to take note of it. Their work has been imprinted, and this new generation of creators are ready to pick up where past generations have left off.

What is a Creative? A creative can be the model you know on Instagram or the artist you see drawing outside in Prospect Park—the simplest answer being someone who finds joy in cultivating new concepts and ideas. office favorite Jamont, AKA Hoodrich J, is no stranger when it comes to standing his ground and making sure inclusivity is a topic discussed at the table.

He's also not afraid to craft the seats for the underepresented groups, so they can be a part of the disussion as well. In this series, he features as the creative director and a model in an editorial aiming to higlight the original New York Aficionados. This group of creatives simultaneously manages to shine a very important spotlight on upcoming brands and designers of color such as Telfar, No Sesso, Nihl, Theopoilio, Doss Swim and various others.

Transcending us back to the funky 70's and 80's, these creatives transport us to a time before gentrification and its massive impact on local New Yorkers. And while genetrification is still a sensitive topic, one thing is for certain—it has made New York an even bigger melting pot. This editorial is a utopia bridging together old New York with the current New York while still keeping its authenticity—involving not only creatives of color but LGBTQIA creatives of color who are owning their crafts, and making sure their much needed stories, achievements and ideas are kept alive throughout their poignant pieces.
