Polaroids of British Youth
Outerwear was the real winner here, though, and Slimane had a lot to live up to following the cult-like admiration of predecessor Phoebe Philo’s iconic wool coats and cashmere creations which had everyone placing orders even when the pieces were not necessarily designed for them.
Philo always favored minimalism when it came to her designs; Slimane, on the other hand, keeps his guys warm in a variety of jackets, including knee-length houndstooth pea coats, collared bombers, animal printed car coats and of course a range of leather moto jackets that he brought back to the runway (and into the everyday mainstream fashion lexicon) at Saint Laurent. Like his debut collection last season, Celine A/W ‘19 radiated a post-punk, New Wave attitude that was signature Hedi; but still left us looking forward to the future of Celine.
