“For girls, by girls”: MadeMe's New Alpha MA-1 Bomber
Featuring twins Bess and San in all their long-haired glory, the campaign emphasizes the importance of championing female talent, with Shaniqwa Jarvis behind the lens and Miyako Bellizzi on styling. We caught up with Erin over email when we heard about it. Read below.
Sahir Ahmed— Love the collab. Are you excited for it to be out in the world already?
Erin Magee— Imagine I said, “NO, NO FUCKING WAY” lol
SA— What’s your favorite detail? Whenever I wear my MA-1, I almost always pair it with a hoodie so the fleece hood is so clutch.
EM— Thank you, me too, I need my hoodie underneath. Although, my favorite detail has to be the all-over ruching.
SA— As a pioneer of streetwear that doesn’t cater to a male audience, what was it like to reimagine this staple?
EM— Re-designing a staple is the hardest thing to do. Maintaining style integrity while pushing it enough to feel new and a real reason to collaborate is very hard. I hope we did it right!?
SA— The weather’s also kind of perfect for a bomber. How would you style it this season?
EM— I like how we styled it in the photos, with a kilt and a high sock. For me, I’d just do it with really baggy jeans, which feels very 90s … or it can be classic with straight-leg boot-cut jeans, and a good pair of leather boots.
SA— Do you have a favorite moment from the campaign?
EM— Meeting the twins irl! The girls, Sam and Bess, are downtown NYC enigmas … to speak with them, connect with them, and learn about them was very special. As a mother of two girls myself, connecting with their mom Jodi was very special too. Shaniqwa Jarvis and Miyako Bellizzi are good friends of mine, so we kept the set very casual, warm, and friendly. I think the photos speak to the on-set connections.
SA— If the jacket had a song, what would it be?
EM— “Big Difference”, Nicki Minaj; Pink Friday 2 … lol!!!
