CHARLIEWOOD – Like A Deep Throat
There was quite the turnout: guests included Parker Posey, Rose McGowan, Mel Ottenberg, Adam Selman, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Mickey Boardman, Justin Vivian Bond, and nightlife stars like Aquaria, The Misshapes, and Sophia Lamar.
Hair, both real and synthetic, was everywhere—Harry wore a giant coat made of the stuff for a true representation of her band, Blondie. There was an electric performance by punk drag queen and musician Christeene (who generously let me bum a cigarette before the show), and performers were regularly scattered throughout the entire event, all in Le Mindu’s hairpieces. A highlight of the night was a naked performer wearing a chicken mask, pushing around a shopping cart filled with eggs and a KFC basket.
But Le Mindu himself had by far the best Charliewood description. “It’s like a rollercoaster,” he told me. “Like doing a deep throat. I don’t know if you’ve ever done a deep throat, but it’s great feeling, and then it’s awkward feeling, and it’s weird, and it’s beautiful, and you look at yourself in the mirror while you’re doing it. And Charliewood is like that. It’s full of strange emotions. It gets you really high, and there’s depression. Like taking crack.”
