unWrapped: January 2022
Meta Angel - FKATwigs
It's still January? While this month had me age 5 years, Twigs defined this never-ending cycle, well it seems, and laid down her vulnerabilities enveloped in masterful production and genre-bending tracks. This one had goosebumps run down my spine, and pray for my own meta angel.
Big Fun - Inner City
It might not feel like it quite yet, but I’m certain 2022 will be a year of fun. What better way to ring it in than with the masters of living the good life, Inner City? The Detroit duo’s entire Paradise album curates the exact energy I’m carrying into the rest of the year.
Harlem - Jazzboy
Just a feel good track that I’ve been listening to for a few years now but I recently found my way back to it. This track always flips an otherwise ordinary day into a fantastical one.
wanna be tied - SALON MUSIC
Something about transposing “I wanna be tied” and “I wanna be free;” the security of a pop-drumkit under spiraling guitar; the almost indistinguishable vocals asking “black or white?”/ “dark or light?” January was finding uneasy footing; feeling free through the fall.
Importance - infinite bisous
This song was my top played track during January. There aren’t many words to it, but the main riff about figuring out what’s important definitely reflects the type of energy I’m looking to channel over the next 12 months.
Volare (Nel Blu Di Pinto Di Blu) - Dean Martin
I was lucky enough to spend half of my January in LA, away from the snowy slush of New York. I was in an all organic wine shop up the PCH in Malibu when this song came over the speakers and I was instantly locked into the present moment. A simple moment in time turned out to be my favorite memory of the trip and since then I’ve been listening to this song on repeat whenever I’ve needed a serotonin boost this month.
