Around The World in 8 Days

The project found its starting point a month later, when a friend from Amsterdam came to stay with me in London. While visiting a series of charity shops, he picked up a pair of jeans he liked, before realizing he would not be able to wear them back home because they would be seen as too baggy. In London, they would be considered very skinny. That shift in perception, across places that are geographically close, became the foundation of the work.

From there, the series developed into an exploration of how fashion and identity differ across continents, but also where they overlap. Rather than travelling the world, I brought it into a single studio space. Shot over eight days, the project brings together two people from each inhabited continent, all of whom were born and raised there. By removing location entirely, the images focus on what remains: personal style, gesture, and the subtle ways identity is expressed without context.

The process itself became central to the work. Reaching out, navigating language barriers, and meeting people I would otherwise never encounter felt increasingly meaningful at a time when so much interaction is filtered through screens. What emerged was not just a portrait of difference, but a shared visual language of global youth.
