Primavera Sound Brought Barcelona to Downtown Los Angeles

The headliners of the festival, Lorde, Nine Inch Nails, and the Arctic Monkeys provided perfect nightcaps for each night of the weekend. Lorde, who is currently in the final days of the second leg of her North American world tour, teased songs from her new album mixed between hits from her most recent album, ‘Solar Power’ and some of her old classics. Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails showed what two years of anticipation looked like during their set. With a mix of blinding bright lights, smog, and perfectly timed strobes, NIN brought their anything goes attitude back to the stage, bringing the energy of the crowed to new highs and ending with a beautiful, yet soul crushing, rendition of Hurt. On Sunday the Arctic Monkeys brought their British banter to Los Angeles. Alex Tuner crooned into the mic, his perfect pitch juxtaposed perfectly with his low British drawl, giving the crowed exactly what they wanted and playing songs from every era, even returning to the hit that started it all, ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor.’

The festival team made an effort to ensure that the lineup was gender-balanced, working towards their goal of cultivating a more inclusive and fair landscape within the music industry. They also did their best to provide a safe festival space, with enough security and wider security lines, water stations, and plenty of space for festival goers to rest and recharge if needed. While this may have been the first year for the festival in Los Angeles, no one plans for it to be the last.
