PUMA x Louis Gabriel Nouchi

How did the collaboration with PUMA happen?

I’ve been in touch with the team for months before we started to talk about it. It’s been quite natural and fluid I’ve must say, which   think is the best way to have a good collaboration.

What was your process for merging the styles of PUMA, specifically the Mostro, and your own brand?

The Mostro is a model that I used to wear when I was in college and it was the hippest one! So quite emotional for me to work on this specific model. I wanted to work on it in a very minimal way, what would be the essence of these shoes, who’s design is objectify very strong and weird: the spikes are for me the most important visual information that can remain of it. I wanted to do super minimal and radical, without any trims, only colors and different materials : so the first drop is a bio PU mule version in 1 block, this 2nd drop is a knitwear version, like a socks/ tabi kinda vibes. You almost don’t feel it on the feet.

Does your French identity influence your design ethos?

I don’t know, maybe a way of being quite under the radar, soft colors, not very « in your face » way of abording design.

Have you had a pair of shoes in your life that have meant a lot to you? If so, could you tell us about them?

My first Tabi from Margiela, because of the fact that it’s the first expensive shoes I’ve m-been working to buy a pair, and it was super bold to wear them in the street back in the days in Paris :). Always have a pair of them.

Do you think that the shoes someone wears can tell you a lot about them?

A LOT ahaha.

What do you think makes a good sneaker?

Comfort, performance and the fact that it lasts longer than 6 months in term of quality.

Would you be interested in creating your own LGN-branded sneakers in the future?

Not for now, as it’s extremely expensive area to develop, and you need a very specific knowledge. I think it’s more interesting to do it in collaboration with brands like PUMA who have the expertise and knowledge in this specific category. That’s a purpose of a collaboration - to learn new things that you can applied in different ways, in garments for example.

Finally, is there anything you would like to share that is interesting or unexpected about this collaboration?

This second drop is my favorite of the design I’ve developed, and it was the most challenging to do! Even if it’s the most simple visually. Very proud that we’ve achieved it and it’s finally released :)
