There is Safety in Solitude with Knockout
“My ‘Aha!’ moment happened when I started showing my early designs to friends and learned that they all thought about their safety on a daily basis,” says designer and CEO Kate Davis. “Because we don’t usually tell our friends or family about catcalls or every time we feel unsafe, I didn’t realize how widespread these experiences were. Growing up in New York City, I knew that was my experience, but I didn’t know how many of us regularly feel unsafe.”
When it comes to individuals having discreet means of protection, Davis believes this is a necessity. “Most safety tools live in the bottom of our bags, if we’re carrying them at all. You can’t always anticipate when you’ll feel unsafe, so my hope is that your Knockout ring is on hand wherever you go. I’ve even heard from many of my customers that my products have helped kickstart valuable safety conversations, including with their partners and male allies – often for the first time. I have to tell you, that’s something that I absolutely love.”
Aside from their incredibly whimsical — yet useful — rings, Knockout will also be expanding into non-jewelry safety accessories in 2022. Davis has the ability to create these products in ways they have never been done before – in ways that diverge from the typical male lens, and she plans to continue to put her resourceful concepts to use to create a new wave in the world of jewelry and self-defense.
