Celebrate Autonomy and Womanhood All Year Long

With a foreward by Paloma Elsesser that speaks to the topic of abortion, the calendar in its entirety is an aesthetic and humanitarian declaration of a topic and effort of which it is the duty of us all, female-identifying or otherwise, to hear, support and share. Over Miracle Seltzer and the unparalleled sounds of Lynette Nylander's DJ set echoing through the magazine store, the project's creators tell me, "This project is about raising money for Planned Parenthood of Greater NY, an institution that provides resources and access to abortion services. With additional funds, PPGNY can offer additional abortion appointments, decrease appointment wait times and maximize resources to care for New Yorkers as well as people traveling to NY from other states to seek compassionate, nonjudgmental abortion services."

On their initial inspiration, Ariella continues, "We think it’s important to utilize the resources and skills that we have to do what we can for what needs to be done. I’m a producer and can make things happen. Jen is a brilliant creative who understands what works and what doesn’t. How do we use what we do for good? This subject is deeply intimate and important to us personally, but on a wider scale - given the Supreme Court’s ruling last summer in Roe v Wade., the calendar was born out of a shared belief that we all deserve access to essential and safe health care services."

Of their curatorial process, and how each artist was selected Brill and Starkman began with what matters, digging into the themes and political points that spawned it all. "The work within the calendar centers on womanhood, autonomy, freedom and the intersection of these themes, so we went after artists who fit the direction. We wanted to include legendary artists whose work we’re obsessed with and have had a long standing stake with PP like Marilyn Minter and Lauren Greenfield, and rising artists we love like Janiva Ellis, LaKela Brown, Maggie Lee."

The calendar is exclusively available through HommeGirls.com for $45 USD + shipping. Pre-order are currently open with calendars to be sent out by January 31st.
