'Masters, Mavericks, Mavens'

Rather than going the route of many age-old art fairs, what we've seen stand out during NYCxDesign Week, especially the last couple years, is the curators' drive to discover and dedicate much of such an elevated event to emerging designers, and design studios doing something different, who are striving for an inclusive and diversified design industry.

One design studio who epitomises this statement is Egg Collective— a female-owned-and-led studio who's efforts have gone above and beyond in creating a welcoming workplace for women who have long since been left out of being offered equal opportunities to their male counterparts with the same careers.

For anyone attending any of the shows on view this week— Egg Collective's exhibition which opened last night, Designing Women II: Masters, Mavericks, Mavens, is definitely not one to miss. As the second iteration of their 2017 debut show at NYCxDesign Week, the show continues the cerebral conversation about women working with the craft in both contemporary and historical contexts.

Though, obviously, there is an overwhelming amount to say on the subject, and the show's statement, the stellar curating work of Lora Appleton, the founder of kinderMODERN and The Female Design Council, alongside Egg Collective in itself carries clear evidence in itself of the inspiring things female designers have done, are currently doing, and will continue to do in the future for the design industry. From Rooms, to the late great Greta Magnusson Grossman, this show embodies everything about the everlasting, empowering abilities of women working in the arts.

DESIGNING WOMEN II: MASTERS, MAVERICKS, MAVENS will be on view from May 10 through June 1st, at 304 Hudson St, #307, NY.
