Opening Ceremony x Herb Ritts

Roused by their “365 Days of Pride” initiative — dedicated to encouraging creative expression by providing a platform for LGBTQ+ artists — Opening Ceremony’s new line highlights the legendary work of Herb Ritts. Consisting of five t-shirts featuring iconic images from the late photographer, the capsule looks to honor his legacy which continues to linger in the fabric of LGBTQ+ culture today.

Ritts often captures the human form through the lens of classical Greek sculpture, approaching each body as if it was carved from marble — precious yet mighty. By exploring the idea of gay male bodies existing as objects of desire in the 80s and 90s, his portraits redefined boundaries of queer perception that would surpass his career.

Opening Ceremony threw a pop-up party hosted by James Veloria in NYC to kick off the launch on June 24. People gathered to dance in celebration of Pride month, Ritts’ life, and the birth of the beloved brand’s new line.
