Trying to Catch Up with Peach Tree Rascals

office spoke to Peach Tree Rascals, who live together in LA, about their new music video for the acoustic version of "Mariposa."

Hey guys how’s it going?

Tarrek—Doing great! Thanks for asking.

Jorge—Busy - we’re gearing up for a special “Mariposa” drop this week.

Joseph—Good - grateful to be busy during these times.

Issac—We’re good. Busier than ever.

Dom—Tired… but good, thanks.

How’s quarantine life been living altogether?

Tarrek—Honestly, it’s been a blessing in disguise. Everyone’s had the time to reflect and I think that I can say we’ve all used the time to become better artists.

Jorge—I agree with Tarrek. Since we’ve signed our label deal, it’s opened new doors to expand our craft and expand on the DIY process we’ve always tried to maintain, just with more resources.

Joseph—I’ve used this time to collaborate with everyone and Dom has been helping me work on becoming a better producer too.

Issac—I’ve been practicing with everyone on perfecting our live set. We really can’t wait to go on tour next year.

Dom—What everyone else has said… it’s been great. The creativity in our house has been higher than ever. We have many releases planned out through next year.

I wanna know how y’all met.

Tarrek—It was in high school actually, all of us minus Jorge were making our own music and we basically decided to join forces.

Jorge—Ya basically the guys found me on Twitter and IG through local friends and decided I’d come on board to help with the creative and branding of the band.

Joseph—We were just lucky that we were all making music we loved and it was a matter of combining our sounds to try and make something great.

Issac—It was lucky. I was originally from Tracy, CA, making music alone so when I moved and found these guys and we created together, it was amazing how we were all able to elevate our individual talents.

Dom—I taught myself to produce and basically had no one to work with, so when we all found each other in high school we all sort of grew together.

When did you decide to start making music?

Tarrek—We always had been, but I think personally it stemmed from a love for Disney channel and the pop songs that really stuck with me from those shows. I loved them.

Jorge—No comment! Joseph: I think because I grew up listening to so much classic rock like Fleetwood for example, I was inspired to take what I heard and make something of my own.

Issac—I have always been inspired by many of the rap greats like Dre and Kendrick. I was making music at home when I was 9 trying to emulate them. It was tras… but I stuck with it and got better. My brother helped a lot with that too because he’s a musician.

Dom—I’ve always loved music and playing instruments for as long as I remember. I’ve always been inspired by people like Quincy Jones and Lauryn Hill. I knew I wanted to be part of a music movement like them. I just didn’t have the opportunity until I met the rest of PTR.

When did you move in together?

Tarrek—August, 2019.

Jorge—What Tarrek said.

Joseph—Yes although we are moving closer to LA this August.

Issac—Yes. Dom: Very excited

How’s that been?

Tarrek—Incredible. Nonstop creating. It’s a dream.

Jorge—We’re all brothers so we love the communal aspect of having someone to collaborate with and hangout with all the time.

Joseph—I love being around PTR 24/7. Always someone to bounce ideas off of.

Issac—I’m grateful to be here and have people to work with all the time. I’ve never imagined an opportunity like this.

Dom—Agreed. Sorry everyone took what I wanted to say.

I figured out your song "Mariposa" is TikTok famous, what’s that been like?

Tarrek—It was totally unexpected.

Jorge—We put that song out a year ago, so we love that it’s having a new life.

Joseph—This is our favorite song. We’re grateful it’s getting the attention it deserves.

Issac—Incredible. Just totally blown away by our fans and what this has become.

Dom—So so grateful that a song we made 100% ourselves in a shed in San Jose is doing this.

Are you cooking up an album?

Tarrek—Shhhh….

Jorge—I mean yes, always.

Joseph—We have many ideas.

Issac—For sure will be done in the next month or so.

Dom—I honestly think we have an album now.

What’s the creative process between all of you?

Tarrek—It totally differs from person to person.

Jorge—I’m inspired visually by what the guys write about and create sonically.

Joseph—We all write and sing or rap minus Jorge. So we always bring our ideas to Dom who produces and build off of the great ideas.

Issac—Dom always has the final say.

Dom—It is very collaborative though. Everyone contributes something.

Heard y’all are from San Jose, I’m from Oakland so it’s nice to see Bay fools glowing up.

Tarrek—Ay! Thank you.

Jorge—We’re going to be the next greatest thing since Smash Mouth… I hope.

Joseph—Thanks so much.

Issac—Appreciate that.

Dom—Thank you!

So what’s next for y’all? You wanna be the next BROCKHAMPTON or something else entirely?

Tarrek—We love Brockhampton, but never try to emulate them. They have their own sound and are killing it.

Jorge—Exactly, we do what feels right for us. Never try to copy anyone.

Joseph—BH is great and amazing. I hope we can collaborate one day for sure.

Issac—Agree with Joe. I think we’re just a different type of group making different music. But we would make dope stuff together.

Dom—We create music for ourselves that focuses on the happy and optimistic parts of life. I think that’s missing and a gap in our lane of music right now.
