We're All In "The Pack"

“In the last few years, there has been an explosion of creatives building successful careers based in Mexico. This has created an interesting community that not only inspires but constantly collaborates in interdisciplinary projects that allows us to create culture, grow, and evolve,” he notes. Approaching design from a fluid perspective, bringing along who will listen, Campillo stitches in intention with every garment deepening the message he holds dear to him. He states, “It’s a message of how inclusivity is one of the most important tools to allow tradition to remain relevant. How aiming for sustainability is possible within everyone’s limits and why being proud of your identity is so important and empowering.”

Contextualizing the brand’s mission and creative output, Campillo draws inspiration from his experiences and environment, keeping his approach fresh and well-informed. “A lot of things have the potential to be inspiring, and I think it's more about the perspective you have on something rather than the subject itself. I find my culture very inspiring, allowing me to have my own personal references and understand who I am and where I come from. I’m also very inspired by the people that I work with and my friends. When it comes to building my own universe, I find inspiration in self-reference. I find it interesting to revisit my own work. When it comes to creating, using my own work as a starting point allows me to evolve in my own way,” he articulates. Bringing these ideas to life, Campillo details his creative process, subverting the typical start to finish. “The process for me is constant. I never start or finish, and it's more of a mindset rather than a process. I think an important aspect is the fact that a collection means an edit of my work during a specific period of time, rather than an isolated process of development,’ he states.

Arriving at a point where the deeply connected designer leverages his craft not only to tell a story but create by example, Campillo is unwavering regarding his values. As his silhouettes remain a balance of masculine and feminine, the Mexico City-based creative won’t comprise quality, emphasizing the use of raw material and sustainable practices. “We approach sustainability by using similar materials every season; silk, linen, denim, leather, and wool. We use these materials because they are what have less impact on the ecosystem that is also within our reach. They are biodegradable and durable and work as parameters for the creative story. We have developed a few experimental techniques to treat these materials, allowing us to expand and give depth to our universe. By experimenting, we have found identity,” he explains. Adorning each garment with Mexican sensibilities and unique detailing, Campillo has tapped into a transcendental state that one must open oneself to understand.

Visualizing Campillo's passion within The Pack, photographer Michelle Gonzales has captured bodies that speak to the brand's core, documenting a moment and time through reflection will signify growth. While The Pack is still young with a point of view embracing evolution, Campillo speaks to the next steps, defining a new chapter for the designer. "We have just started working with BOON, a showroom based in Paris, and have begun our international wholesale strategy along with PR showrooms in Mexico City and Paris. We are very excited about this new stage because it will bring new challenges. In creative terms, we are preparing a short movie and an art installation. I believe creating elements that enrich the brand's universe will allow us to further develop our aesthetic language." As fashion progresses, transmuting and contorting itself to remain relevant, Patricio Campillo Taracena acknowledges that actual progression subsists in intentionality and respect for the process from sourcing textiles to the hands that sow dreams together.
