What is The Mutt Museum?

Large scale paintings decorate the walls, boasting bold and abstracted brush strokes as well as textured graphics created with smoke. These ritualitic smoke and pigmentation processes can also be seen adorning the wearable items around the space— upcycled luxury items from Prada pumps to Arc'teryx shells. Not only this, but each garment shares another unique trait— curling, almost floral embroidered lines flow through every piece— and none of these customizations are limited to the items in store. The Mutt Museum offers on-site customization for anything a visitor might bring by.

"We wanted to reimagine ways in which art and fashion engages with the community. We took the 'mom n pop' approach and built The Mutt Museum to share our work in a more intimate environment. The space is about inviting the customer behind-the-scenes to experience our process. But truly the path we are on has evolved organically. In a way, the Mutt Museum found us."

The opening event last week, titled OUT OF THIS WORLD, played with the idea of customization in a broader and more psychological sense, provoking visitors to open up their perspective, step outside of their typical selves and experience newness.

"As we set out on our journey in life, we create versions of ourselves that provide comfort and security. We go so far as to believe that the molds we created for ourselves are for the best, and because of that, we hold onto them for far too long. So many of us find ourselves walking a path with a very narrow view of our own potential and a stunted inner-expansion. With a determination to break old molds, we invite you to question any self-imposed limitations and to welcome fresh perspectives."

Check out the Mutt Museum, try on some wearable art and perhaps have a glass of champagne with the warm and welcoming owners, at 7 Dunham Place in Brooklyn.
