Bottega Veneta: Salon 03

In a sequel to their Berghain takeover in Berlin, Daniel Lee’s Bottega Veneta marries Italian luxury with the endless creativity of the Motor City. The show, Salon 03, which took place this week, welcomed a flurry of high-profile guests decked in statement pieces from the new collection. Mary J. Blige and Lil Kim were among them, each putting on a show with intricate and hypnotizing outfits from the presentation.

It makes sense that Lee would choose Detroit as the next destination for the Salon show following Berghain. After all, the American city is the birthplace of techno, while Berlin’s Berghain is arguably the most well-known techno venue on Earth. What’s more, the presentation is exemplary of the creative excellence that embodies the fascinating history of Detroit. Signature Intrecciato knits sculpted into mutant-like cuts stand out for their unique interpretation of today’s streetwear culture. At the same time, a set of bright dresses adorned with oversized sequins reimagine what it means to “dress up.”

As always, the accessories in the collection do not fail to declare their presence. Their beautiful palette, paired with the sophisticated craftsmanship and design that is the bread and butter of BV, ties the presentation together firmly. Bottega Veneta reminds us with Salon 03 that they not only make fashion...they are fashion.

The Salon 03 presentation is launched alongside The Firehouse in Detroit, a new and creative retail space by Bottega Veneta in collaboration with local artists and musicians in the city. The Firehouse will be home to a number of pop-ups and installations, including some by the Detroit-based Underground Music Academy.

Escaping the Glass Cage

For years, she stood still, watching life rush past her, a quiet observer behind the glass. Now, the glass is broken, and she steps out into the unknown. She walks through the city, caught between two worlds—part of it, yet apart from it.

Her journey is quiet but bold, searching for something she’s never understood, something just out of reach. On church steps and under glowing city lights, she questions everything: the rules, the past, and where she truly belongs. Each step feels both freeing and uncertain.

A curious soul in a borrowed life, she keeps moving forward, leaving behind only whispers of her escape, like a fleeting shadow in the night.

The North Face Unveils Snowsports Collection for Fall 2024

Total Recall

Born in the Moroccan town of Tétouan and educated in Paris, Khattabi’s upbringing required him to make sense of how the different influences surrounding him could align. In turn, his designs explore the embedded codes and history of his bicultural background. Total Recall addresses this phenomon by including garments meant to reflect adaptation and transformation. Skirts made of tire covers and motorcyle tarpaulins refashioned into dresses are scattered across the collection, conveying notions of displacement. Blending these elements adds an industrial touch to the pieces while still keeping a sense of movement.

From sweatpants infused with polka dots to nostaglic slogans and banner display, the ensembles symbolize hidden identities and memories. Giving us a glimpse into his own memories, Khattabi's work evokes affection for the past. It's a nod to the interconnectedness of culture and how we interact with its complexitites creatively.
