JW Anderson Defines Genderblurring in His AW22 Collection

The British-based brand known for their androgynous and slic aesthetic, does not disappoint with this J.W. Anderson AW22 collection. Through the course of his career, his ready-to-wear collections have been held to the highest esteem and for good reason. His vision and design philosophy touches on minimalism to elements of maximalism. His use of color and ability to create shapes that accentuate the body in both harmonious feminine and masculine ways is a talent that takes the designer to new levels in each collection — including this one.

The collection takes a page out of an scrap book from the metallic reverbs featuring different pieces including polo dresses with rounded hems, thick sweaters with intricate knot details, and rounded cropped long sleeves that is reminiscent of the 90s. Anderson did not miss a beat when curating a collection that felt like it truly removed the the ubiqiotious gendered line between masculine and feminine energy. Both intersect and blend flawlessly as the blazers he designed feature soft rounded edges rather than sharp ones, leaving a moment to appreciate the softness throughout the collection as we enter the softer seasons of this year. Anderson expresses a certain playfulness that hints at a shameless, fulfilling, and liberating fun.

Anderson tells Vogue what was going through his mind during the process of making this collection, “I went into 2022 feeling a bit silly, but in the right way, in a positive way,” shares Anderson. “I don’t want things to feel formulaic, I don’t want things to make sense.”
