Moses Sumney Presents Blackalachia at NeueHouse
These visuals resonate deeply with viewers as instruments are played with grace and Moses’ mellifluous voice caresses our eardrums.
There’s a sense of longing in this film as he searches inwardly towards who he is and who he wants to be. Sumney offers a guiding hand to those who aspire to be an artist too. He expresses in an interview after the screening that he did not have that guiding hand, there wasn’t a teacher to help inspire him to pursue these wild dreams. Rather than look to others for that encouragement, he took it upon himself to be inspired.
It may be hard to believe that this film was made at the peak of a pandemic, but it goes to show that Sumney’s artistry is truly timeless and holds no bounds.
