MORRIS, Made to Feel

Zoe Whalen makes clothing to be felt, rather than worn. Her delicate sheers, pastel knits, and vintage floral patterns complement playful silhouettes, radiating a tender sensitivity. The self-proclaimed “soft human” presented her second collection at Stream Gallery in Bushwick during NYFW. A recent graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, Whalen has already been featured by PURPLE Fashion and Vogue Italia.

Curiously named MORRIS, the presentation featured an ethereal cast properly adorned in cherubic garb and settled into what felt like a fucked up family reunion. Distorted quasi-melodies soundtracked a natural yet eerie stillness: straight-faced models were situated around antiquey furniture, sheer and lace curtains, classic houseplants, and, most notably, a glitching 90s television with a pearl necklace draped over the screen. Splashes of warm light punctuated the dim space and led guests through an aesthetic fever dream.

Whalen later told us that MORRIS is her great great grandmother’s last name, “I wanted this collection to be a tribute. She never got to show her genius because of the times...She was too busy being a housewife.”

Finding strength in softness and femininity has been central to Whalen’s work. Her use of sheer layers in this collection speaks to the complex tones and feigned comfort in MORRIS’ Middle America.

Reimagining the bold sneaker and juxtaposing it against Brooklyn’s city scape, we play into warm furs and striking fishnets all set against the newly iconic bright blue of the shoe. Levi’s Goes UNDERCOVER

The collection includes nine pieces that draw inspiration from both brands’ rich histories, with reimagined jeans, T-shirts, and trucker jackets which reference UNDERCOVER’s “Exchange” program from its 1998 AW collection and feature embroidered zigzag patterns inspired by their 2003 archives. The Levi’s x UNDERCOVER collection will be available worldwide on January 18th, through Levi.com, the Levi’s App, select Levi’s stores, undercoverism.com, and select UNDERCOVER locations.
