All Access: Anna Bolina

Far be it for me of all people to admit there's something in the world that fits the description of Ketamine chic, and mean it as a compliment. What I mean is not that her work is disoriented, messy or lost, but rather that reads like a well-researched essay on Downtown culture, an amalgamation of hyper-current references and the energy of Andy Warhol's Superstar and all that makes it intriuging, provocative, desireable.

Though this fashion season mesh and partial nudity have made an appearance at nearly every show, though Anna Bolina bared all — there was little to no trend following, the New York based designer offered an energetic evolution of what she has always done, and done well. In debuting her sex-fueled fashion brand's Spring/Summer '23 collection last night in TriBeCa, the designer seemed to answer to the sentiment emblazoned on one of her previous, signature pieces, "Who are we trying to impress" with yet another collection that played with the paradox of being hot beyond reach and untouchably cool, as well as inspiring and raw.

The sex appeal about her work balances razor sharp edge and thoughtful construction — or rather, deconstruction — but keeps it simple enough that the body bearing one of her pieces could be yours, if you dare.
